Criminal Justice
Blinn’s Criminal Justice Program prepares you for a career in law enforcement, corrections, or the court system. In addition to classroom instruction, you receive targeted training to enhance your professional opportunities with local, county, and state agencies.
Our graduates are eligible for a variety of local, state, and federal careers, including law enforcement, investigation, corrections operation, corrections counseling, a variety of court positions, government administration, and probation. Similar careers also are available through private companies.
Through a partnership between Blinn and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) Central Texas Police Academy and Texas Forensic Science Academy, you can receive 16-17 weeks of practical training with law enforcement equipment or forensic investigation equipment in addition to the usual classroom instruction. The police academy option prepares students to sit for the peace officer licensing exam.
Degree and Certificate Plans
Students completing a degree will be prepared to successfully transfer into a four year college/university and pursue a degree in Criminal Justice.

Through Blinn’s partnership with the RELLIS Academic Alliance, you can earn your Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice and your B.S. or B.A.A.S in Criminal Justice or B.S. in Public Administration from Tarleton State, all at Texas A&M-RELLIS in Bryan.

The 60-credit-hour Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology introduces students to the field of criminal justice technology in preparation for a range of career opportunities.
The 60-credit-hour Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice – Field of Study introduces students to the methodologies and techniques of police officers and their profession. It includes more of an emphasis on criminal justice than the regular AAS degree.
The 60-credit-hour Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology provides an introduction to the field of law enforcement technology in preparation for a range of career opportunities.
The 24-credit-hour Certificate Level-1 in Corrections provides students with an understanding of the foundations of criminal justice and correctional systems.
The 12-credit-hour Occupational Skills Award in Judicial Practices provides an introduction to both the legal profession and criminal justice fields.
The 20-credit-hour Certificate Level-1 in Basic Peace Officer provides the foundation to pursue Texas Peace Officer licensure.
The 18-credit-hour Certificate Level-1 in Forensic Science allows students enrolled in the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) Forensic Science Academy to earn college credit hours in addition to the TEEX Forensic Investigation & Evidence Management Certificate.
The 9-credit-hour Occupational Skills Award in Criminal Justice provides introductory principles in the field of criminal justice.
The Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice – Field of Study, Certificate Level-1 in Corrections, and Occupational Skills Award in Criminal Justice are available on the Brenham, Bryan, and RELLIS campuses.
The Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology, Certificate Level-1 in Basic Peace Officer, Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology, and the Certificate Level-1 in Forensic Science in partnership with the TEEX Forensic Science Academy are available at RELLIS.
The Occupational Skills Award in Judicial Practices is available online and on the Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses.
Blinn courses are highly transferrable, and recent criminal justice graduates have transferred to Sam Houston State, Texas A&M, Tarleton State, Prairie View A&M, and Texas State.
Through Blinn’s partnership at the RELLIS Academic Alliance, you can earn your associate degree from Blinn and apply those classes toward your bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State at RELLIS. Blinn’s Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice or your Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice – Field of Study applies toward a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Tarleton State at RELLIS. The Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice transfers into Tarleton’s Bachelor of Science in Public Administration at RELLIS. The Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology and the Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology apply seamlessly toward Tarleton’s Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Criminal Justice Administration at RELLIS.
Through the CAPS Program, you can co-enroll at Blinn and the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV), earning your Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice – Field of Study from Blinn before continuing your studies to earn your Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from UHV.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for employees in protective service careers (such as correctional officers and police) in May 2021 was $46,590.

Criminal Justice courses in Bryan are held at the RELLIS Campus (designated as “RL” in the course catalog). If you have been accepted into Blinn but can’t register for a CRIJ course (for instance, you get a campus restriction), e-mail admissions@051857.com, state that you intend to be a criminal justice major, and your campus designation will be changed to RELLIS.
